Family home for Jordan, Albany and baby Tia

A brand new home on a development perfectly designed for a young family was top of the wish list for Jordan and Albany O’Neill.

The couple were living with parents in Brislington and – with the impending birth of their first baby – wanted to buy a family home that was set in an ideal location for raising a family.

“We want to move somewhere fairly close to our parents and noticed Barratt’s Bilbie Green in nearby Keynsham,” said Jordan (25). The layout of the development was a big draw because it gave the feeling of living in the countryside, without actually being in the middle of nowhere. And the on-site park that’s being built will also serve our family well in years to come.”

Selection of homes in Keynsham

Bilbie Green features a selection of one, two, three and four bedroom homes in the popular area of Keynsham, with open space, a kick-about field and a new play area – making it a great place for children to enjoy the outdoors.

The development is within the catchment area of good schools, close to local shops and sports centres – and is just under eight miles from Bristol city centre.

“We selected the Newton style two bedroom house,” said Jordan. “It’s absolutely ideal for our little family – and the good-sized garden is easy to manage and maintain.

“The eco-friendly features of the house make everyday running costs reasonably cheap in comparison to other properties we looked at in the area. And we were delighted that we could make this home our own by taking advantage of Help to Buy.”

The scheme is available on all new-build homes up to £600,000 in England, Scotland and Wales. Buyers can become owners with just a five percent deposit of the property value of their new home. Many lenders are able to offer a loan-to-value mortgage because the UK Government provides a guarantee of up to 15 percent.

“We had no idea about the options available to us – but the Barratt sales team were very helpful in introducing us to a number of ways for us to buy our first family home,” added Albany (22).

Transport links

“And the area here is absolutely perfect. There are great network links to Bristol and Bath, without the hustle and bustle of inner city life. There are enough local shops just a few minutes walk away – and Keynsham itself has one of the nicest family parks in the wider region.

“This is fantastic for us because we’re proud to say that our new baby Tia (4 weeks) is the first to be born at Bilbie Green – a title I’m sure she’ll be proud of – and we’re confident we have absolutely everything we need here right on the doorstep.

“Jordan works a stone’s throw away, so his commute has never been easier. I’m currently on maternity leave but, with the local train station just five minutes away, my return to work will be just as pleasant.”
