Why move to Taunton

Taunton is in the spotlight this month following news that The Taunton Cider Company has been relaunched with the new company pledging to rebuild the brand.

Taunton enjoys a beautiful setting within the picturesque county of Somerset. As a market town, it is also the region’s retail capital – offering a whole host of shopping opportunities for local people, visitors and those looking to move to the area.

The town’s history dates back to Saxon times, and boasts an impressive display of architecture from various periods – including a number of beautiful Georgian buildings located across Taunton.

Cultural attractions

Cultural attractions are plentiful, with the Museum of Somerset, Taunton Castle and the Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre offering a range of events and shows to choose from.

An attractive place in which to live, Taunton has won Britain in Bloom Awards on a number of occasions. And its Vivary Park is a popular haunt for those wishing to attend the annual flower show.

Cider and cheese tasting

Taunton and cider go hand-in-hand, and Sheppy’s Cider Farm is a great place to visit for both cider and cheese tastings. It’s also a great opportunity for visitors to learn about the county’s traditional cider-making roots and techniques.

There is a huge choice of schools and colleges here for those with growing families – with The Castle School, Bishop Fox’s School and King’s College proving particularly popular.

Despite the town’s bustling day-to-day comings and goings – and numerous local amenities – beautiful countryside is never more than a few minutes away. From the spectacular Quantock Hills to the picturesque Somerset Levels, the area is blessed with areas of outstanding natural beauty.

Transport links

And excellent transport links are never far away either. Taunton’s location, right in the centre of the county, means commuting is easy whatever your method of transport may be. Travelling by car from London or Birmingham takes just two hours – and Cardiff is a mere hour or so away by car or train.

Taking to the skies is straightforward too, with airports located at nearby Exeter and Bristol – just half an hour away.
