Near the beach

The sandy Swanage Beach is one of the main attractions of the town. A family-friendly beach with an accolade of blue flag awards to its name, it has a well-earned reputation of being a good place to soak up the sun, sea and sand.

Families or individuals alike can experience some of the south coast’s best weather while strolling along the promenade, paddling in the clear waters or building sandcastles in the golden sand.

 

Exploring the coast and countryside

As a gateway town to the Jurassic Coast and with Durlston Country Park nearby, Swanage is the perfect base to explore the coast and countryside.

Recognised by UNESCO for its outstanding geology, the Jurassic coastline is part of England’s only natural World Heritage Site and is great for walkers wanting to take in the breathtaking views.

Durlston Castle and Country Park, situated just one mile from Swanage, is a fabulous 320-acre countryside paradise and National Nature Reserve, consisting of sea-cliffs, coastal limestone downland, hay meadows, hedgerows and woodland.

 

With the kids

As well as being close to the seaside, which is obviously great for all the family, there are a number of attractions around Swanage to keep the kids entertained.

Children love a train and the Swanage Railway doesn’t disappoint with its 12-mile return trip that takes in the beautiful Purbeck countryside.

Only 15 minutes away from Swanage and linked to via the Swanage Steam Railway is Corfe Castle, great for children and adults alike. All ages will be captivated by the romantic castle ruins.

 

Getting active

There are plenty of activities to enjoy in Swanage. With the sea nearby, there are many a watersport to enjoy including coasteering, abseiling, climbing, paddle-boarding or kayaking. Swanage Sea Fishing is also a must if you fancy learning to catch a carp or two.

Swanage Beach Gardens Sports Park is also great fun whatever the weather with a putting green, tennis and outdoor bowls.

 

Transport links

With easy access to Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth and regular bus services, commuting to and from Swanage will be a breeze.
