For most, buying a house is the biggest purchase they’ll ever make in their life. But an increasing number of people are finding there are ways to get help onto the ladder, including Gloucester couple Sarah Probert and Sam Dunne.
The pair are looking forward to the birth of their first child this August, and they have a beautiful new home to settle into family life – thanks to David Wilson Homes and the government’s Help to Buy scheme.
The couple wanted to take their first steps into the property market and needed somewhere close to good transport links for Sam’s commute. And, with a newborn on the way, they also wanted to be near to both their parents’ houses in Saul and Standish.
A new home at David Wilson Homes’ exciting Rosewood Grange development at Hunts Grove in Gloucester fitted the bill perfectly.
A great location
“We chose the development because it was in a great location for Sam to travel to work, and it’s surrounded by open space,” said Sarah (25). “There are also local amenities – like shops, a post office, supermarket and clothes shops – close by.
“The David Wilson Homes team was great to us when we first looked around, and they still are now. They were friendly, approachable – and nothing seemed too much trouble. Julianna, who we mainly dealt with, still goes above and beyond to help us with any questions we may have.”
“We were keen to buy a two bedroom home to get us on to the property ladder, and Help to Buy was a wonderful way to achieve that.”
The Help to Buy scheme
The scheme is available on all new-build homes up to £600,000 at Rosewood Grange. Buyers can become owners with just a five percent deposit of the property value of their new home. Many lenders are able to offer a loan-to-value mortgage because the UK Government provides a guarantee of up to 15 percent.
“Help to Buy made it possible for us to buy when we did as it meant we needed a smaller deposit,” added Sam (35). “The scheme was really easy to apply for online too. At a time when we’re starting our own little family, this has been a great chance for us to have our own space – just for the three of us.
“As well as the great service we’ve had from David Wilson Homes, we’d like to thank Dupree Mortgage Solutions for their help and advice.”
