An impressive selection of stylish new homes set within attractive surroundings prompted Simon Parsons to settle at Houndwood in Street.
The popular Barratt development enjoys large areas of open space and features a mix of two, three and four bedroom homes to choose from.
“Houndwood is different,” said Simon (37). “It’s a spacious development and I love its neat and modern layout. The gardens are large and the layout and design of the houses I found very appealing and spacious. There are also dedicated parking areas and cars aren’t parked up on pavements or on corners, which is a really nice change.
“I moved from Portishead because it was getting a little too expensive and congested. I wanted a larger property and I certainly got that from the Nashira house-type.”
Light and airy Nashira
The Nashira is a four bedroom family home with a light and airy lounge, which leads to an open plan kitchen/dining room with french doors to the rear garden. The ground floor also includes a separate utility and a cloakroom.
On the first floor is the master bedroom with en suite shower room, three further good-sized bedrooms and a family bathroom.
“I felt the size and value of this property was perfect,” added Simon. “Living on my own, I probably don’t need all the rooms – but it’s lovely to have all the space. The garage size is also very good and can easily accommodate my rather wide sports car without effort – something many new-build homes fail to do.
“The floor-to-ceiling windows, large kitchen and overall proportion make it a wonderful house to live in.”
Help to Buy
Simon took advantage of Help to Buy to secure his new home at Houndwood. The scheme is available on all new-build homes up to £600,000 in England, Scotland and Wales. Buyers can become owners with just a five percent deposit of the property value of their new home.
“I used Help to Buy as I wanted to have money left for upgrades, new furniture and electronics – so it all worked really well,” said Simon. “And the service I received from Barratt was absolutely fantastic. I cannot fault it in any way. An activity that I’d expected to be highly stressful actually turned out to be nothing of the sort – and was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.”
Houndwood is close to the vibrant town of Street, which is full of great shops – in both Clarks Village and the High Street. The Somerset landscape is a big natural playground, perfect for activities like walking, abseiling, horse riding and cycling.
“I love the Somerset countryside,” said Simon. “Having lived all over, I find it a great place to be – and the reason I settled back here was the access to outdoor living on the doorstep. And the transport connections here are great too.
“I work from home but travel a lot. As I fly overseas often and regularly visit France by ferry, it’s great that I’m only a couple of hours from Heathrow, 40 minutes from Bristol airport and just a few hours from Portsmouth or Plymouth. It’s the perfect location for me.”
