Help to Buy helps Looe family take first steps on the housing ladder

Help to Buy provided the perfect solution for one Cornwall couple keen to take their first steps on the housing ladder.

The scheme, which has helped almost half a million people buy a home since it was launched in 2013, has enabled Diane Walder and Christian Shipley to buy a home for their family.

The have moved into a new home at Penndrumm Fields, the Barratt Homes development in Looe.

“This home means that as a family we can enjoy the benefits of owning our own home and starting an investment for our children as well as having a family home,” said Diane.

“Before buying here we lived in rented accommodation just three miles from Looe but our work and schools for the children are in Looe so moving here has made a real difference to our lives.”

The family has moved into a three bedroom Morpeth at Penndrumm Fields which Barratt Homes sales director Nicki Reid said was perfect for family living.

“This development has proved particularly popular with local people wanting to buy a home and Help to Buy has really had a positive impact on their affordability,” said Nicki. “We’re delighted that Diane and Christian have joined the ranks of home owners this year.”

The five star developer has a range of three and four bedroom homes available at Penndrumm Fields where prices are from £219,995 for the Maidstone design.

Help to Buy enables anyone, both first time buyers and existing owners, to put down just five per cent as a deposit for their new home and to take advantage of a government equity loan together with access to more affordable mortgage rates.

On the Barratt Homes website there is lots more information on Help to Buy – together with a handy calculator which shows how much people can borrow using the scheme.
