Site managers in South Wales scoop housebuilding honours

Site managers working for Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes in South Wales have been named as some of the best in the country after picking up top industry awards.

Three employees from the five-star housebuilder walked away from the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards Wales as winners on Friday (September 6).

The top award went to John Popple, who was crowned the overall regional winner for a site manager at a large housebuilder. John, who works at Barratt Homes’ Waterside @ The Quays development in Barry, is no stranger to award success, having won a Seal of Excellence award at the same event for the last two years.

John, who will now go on to compete against other regional winners at a national event, said the latest award was the icing on the cake. “I’m absolutely over the moon to win the overall award,” he said. “We all strive to exceed customer expectations and it’s nice to know our efforts are recognised by the wider industry with these awards.”

Fellow Barratt Homes site manager Rebecca Roberts, who works at St Michael’s Gate in Llantarnam, also picked up a Seal of Approval Award on the night, as did Paul Oakley, who works at David Wilson Homes’ Goitre Fach development in St Fagans.

Barratt Homes’ managing director Steve Williams said he was thrilled to see a trio of employees being recognised by the NHBC.

“We have a long tradition of producing award-winning site managers and to win this regional accolade for quality is tremendous recognition for the efforts of John, Paul, Rebecca and their teams.’’

He said the award demonstrates that Barratt Homes’ construction teams continue to lead the industry.

“Site managers play a pivotal role in delivering high quality new homes and this recognition demonstrates our dedication and commitment to building new homes of the very highest standard.’’

The Pride in the Job awards are the most coveted in the industry. They are awarded after the construction standard setting body NHBC (National House-Building Council) carries out a series of spot check site inspections to select the best-organised and best-quality developments.

Thousands of site managers throughout the UK were judged on every aspect of their job, including technical skill, quality workmanship, customer service and site safety.

This year also marks the tenth year Barratt has been awarded 5 Stars by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) for customer satisfaction. For Barratt to be awarded 5 Stars means that more than 90% of its customers would be happy to recommend their home to a friend.
