A development of 400 new homes in Stonehouse has been given the go-ahead by planners in Stroud with work on the first phase of development set to start this summer.
Planning permission means the development will also support more than 1,200 new jobs over the lifetime of this development which is on 98 hectares to the west of Stonehouse and Stroud.
As work gets underway the development is set to provide a jobs boost for the area with new roles for the project – including tradespeople, subcontractors and sales advisers – set to be filled mostly by local people
“This is great for people wishing to settle in this sought-after area,” said Barratt Homes sales director Andrea Pilgrim. “We think very carefully before deciding where to build new properties – and we know demand here is very high. We’re thrilled to be playing our part in bringing new homes to people in Stonehouse.”
David Wilson Homes sales director Louise Ware said Great Oldbury will include a mixed use local centre, primary school and employment space with these homes part of the first phase of development.
“Great Oldbury has been created with a whole host of lifestyles in mind – from sole occupants and couples to growing families. This is very important to us. We know there is a need for new and accessible housing in this region, and our home designers have done us proud here.”
Great Oldbury will feature a range of two, three, four and five bedroom homes from the five star developers and will comply with the Built for Life standards which recognise developments which have well designed homes and neighbourhoods.
Features of the development include plenty of open space and areas for children to play and the tree lined avenue running through the development to provide a stunning backdrop to the homes.
Great Oldbury is less than two miles from the M5 offering easy access of Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bristol with Stonehouse station three miles away.
