The efforts of the five star housebuilder have been rewarded with a silver award from the RSPB which has assessed the show home gardens at the development.
Sales director Andrea Pilgrim said the company is committed to safeguarding the environment and the RSPB award recognises its work to make great places for people and wildlife.
“We are thrilled to have been awarded silver for this garden which is already attracting wildlife,” said Andrea. “We have also had positive feedback from people visiting the development who have really engaged with our plans.”
The main pillars to create a wildlife show garden include providing food with nectar and pollen rich plants, providing water, shelter and boundaries which enable animals to move around freely.
The RSPB also judges efforts to protect wildlife by using peat-free compost and supports housebuilders in spreading the word about what they have done and encouraging new residents to be wildlife friendly.
The show home gardens at Northfields Park have features including a bird box, bee box, water butt, flowers for a scented garden and a bird bath and table.
“The gardens incorporate all the key elements advised by the RSPB and not only are they now award-winning but they look great too,” added Andrea.
Barratt Homes works closely with the RSPB to deliver more wildlife friendly housing than ever before and ensure best practice that helps people, plants and animals become healthier and happier.
